The 9 Superstitious Beliefs Associated With Wakes Based from the Movie PAGPAG- Siyam na Buhay

Filipino are very superstitious when it comes to death and funerals. I have already shared before the Filipino Folk Beliefs on Death and Funeral (Based on the Movie "Deds na si Lolo"). Here is another upcoming movie that tackles superstitious beliefs associated with wake. The movie is entitled PAGPAG- Siyam na Buhay topbilled by Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo. It is a story of group of friends who accidentally visited a funeral and violated the 9 Forbidden things to do during a wake. As a consequence for disrespecting these ancient beliefs, each of them will suffer a sinister death.

What are these 9 beliefs? They are the following:

1. It is forbidden to go directly home from a funeral.

2. It is forbidden to sweep floors in a wake.

3. It is forbidden for a teardrop to fall on the dead's coffin.

4. It is forbidden to use mirror in a wake.

5. It is forbidden to bring home food from the wake.

6. It is forbidden to go to a funeral with a wound.

7. It is forbidden to wipe tears from the dead's casket.

8. It is forbidden to spend money intended for the dead.

9. It is forbidden to accompany visitors to the door as they leave.

Video Compilation of Trumpet-Like Sounds From the Sky

Over the past few months, a lot of people have reported about the mysterious sound from the sky. It is somehow a sound of a trumpet. The sound is so eerie that people who have heard it were terrified. Could it be a sign of an alien invasion?

Watch the video compilation of this strange sound from the sky:

As of now, there is no clear explanations as to how this trumpet-like sound has been generated from the sky. The million dollar question now is: Where does this sound come from?

One thing is for sure, this phenomenon is written in the Bible:

Jeremiah 25:31-35

Amplified Bible (AMP)
31 A noise will come even to the ends of the earth, for the Lord has a controversy and an indictment against the nations; He will enter into judgment with all mankind; as for the wicked, He will give them to the sword, says the Lord.
32 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, evil will go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirling tempest will rise from the uttermost parts of the earth.
33 And those slain by the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They shall not be lamented or gathered or buried; their [dead bodies] shall be dung upon the ground.
34 Wail, you shepherds, and cry; and roll in ashes, you principal ones of the flock. For the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions have fully come, and you shall fall and be dashed into pieces like a choice vessel.
35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal ones of the flock any means of escape.

Joey Ayala's version of Lupang Hinirang is Illegal but Awesome

Republic Act No. 8491 is an act prescribing the code of the National Flag, Anthem, Motto, Coat of Arms and other heraldic items and devices of the Philippines. On Chapter II Section Number 37, it says:

The rendition of the National Anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.

The National Anthem has always been a part of our life from the first day of school until graduation and we must all know that any alteration in the lyrics and music of Lupang Hinirang is against the law. But how many times this law has been violated?

The netizens were abuzz lately when Joey Ayala, a Filipino singer and songwriter, has come up with his own version of Lupang Hinirang. Not only did he altered the musical arrangement but also some lyrics of the song including the correct pronunciation.

As much as I would like to judge Ayala for violating Seciton number 37 of Republic Act Number 8491, I was amused with his own rendition of Lupang Hinirang. He has also valid reasons why he created his own version and I so much agreed with him.

Check this video to find out about Joey Ayala's reasons for alteration and listen to his own rendition of Lupang Hinirang. I would say it is awesome.

Heartfelt Messages for Filipino People Affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda

Yolanda or also known as Super Typhoon Haiyan has largely devastated my dear country, Philippines.

It is so heart breaking to watch my fellow Filipinos struggling to survive the hiatus that this super typhoon has brought to some parts of the country like Tacloban and Leyte.

Looking at the brighter side of the story, the super typhoon Yolanda pushes the Filipino spirit beyond limitations that even readers of CNN article acknowledge the "indomitable spirit" of Filipino people.

Here is the uplifting message from one of the comments in article posted by CNN:

“Time to get to know the hardy Filipino people…unbelievably resilient, long-suffering, good-natured, uber friendly, loyal, ingenious, and a bunch of survivors.
At the end of the day, the Filipinos will just shake off the dirt from their clothes and thongs, and go about their business…and SMILE. They do not complain much, they will bear as long as they can.
Maybe this is why they were given the “privilege” of bearing the burden of the strongest typhoon ever recorded.”
Even the UFC fighter Alex "The Mauler" Gustaffson sent out his message to the victims.

He said:

"Just stay strong, keep your head up and I really hope it is not that bad, but stay strong"

Miss PH Universe 2013 Ariella Arida and 1st Runner Up Ms. Universe Janine Tugonon have also message to the Filipino. Watch this video:

And Korean artist Lee Min Hoo has a special message:

"I heard that there was great damage done by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. I hope everyone is safe now. Please don't lose faith. We're thinking of you from Korea."

It's so nice to know that we Filipino are not alone in facing this tragedy. It is not always about money and material things. Even words of encouragement can unload the burdens.
