How to Turn Your Messy and Pathetic Workplace Into a Fun Place?

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Contest Factory for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Sometimes, we are too busy doing our everyday tasks that we forget to take care of our furniture, cubicles and paperworks. If we take simple things like fixing some damaged machines or compiling piles of papers for granted, you are on your way to a messy workplace. When we think of messy environment, only one thing comes into our mind, it’s depressing. Like you can’t really manage to work and become productive because you are thinking of your dilapidated workplace.
Having a messy workplace is already out of our control. We can’t avoid to spill printer ink, scatter papers, damage chairs and disarrange cubicles. As much as we want to do things as much as possible, we can’t, and the worst part is that we do not have time to fix our messes until you come to a point wherein the damage is irreversible.

Here are my tips on how you can still enjoy your messy workplace:

            1. Put something attractive to the eye in your desk

What is that something that gives you positive energy when you look at it? It could be family picture, flowers, nature images, or whatever. Put that in your desk right in front of you. And if you can’t stand seeing scattered papers and stained furniture around you, just look at that object to change your mood. That would be a good mood shifter.

2. Always Make Sure to Look and Feel Good

They said that workplace should not justify the workers. Prove it. Just because you have a very ugly workplace doesn’t mean you will be ugly too. Dress well, feel good and wear a smile always. If you will see each other smiling and looking good, messy workplace will become a fun place.

3. Use your Office Messiness for Fun

To turn your messy place into a fun place, make fun out of it. There’s no use to be emotionally depressed because you can’t rearrange your environment. Take some pictures or videos of your office and make fun out of it. And speaking of taking videos, you can join the  Pimp My Cube Contest. You might win some good stuffs out of the scruffiness of your workplace. If you believe you really have a bad workplace, then you are qualified. All you need to do is to take a video of your bad office and explain why your workplace needs to be “pimped”. The winners will receive one of these three prize packages:

o New high end computer system
o New Desk, Chair and Decorations
o New Entertainment Package with high end stereo, espresso machine etc.

For more information, watch this contest video.

·               The contest period is from 12/5/11 at 12:00PM to 1/31/12 at 12:00PM.

Having a bad workplace is not bad at all. As long as you know how to appreciate small things, you can always be grateful to see a flower in the middle of the desert.

  1. But there can also be 'order' in chaos. HAHA. My workplace is semipathetic. Which means that there is a certain location that I keep disorganized no matter what. But everything else is organized.

It's great to strike the balance in between. Because you'll be tired if you keep everything organized all the time. I believe it's a waste of energy. So, do both.

  2. I guess it's can't keep everything organize all the time.

  3. I don't enjoy working on a messy desk, too. But sometimes, messiness just can't be helped, especially if one is pressed for time that organizing has to take the back seat. But busy or not, I try to clean up before I go and call it a day.

  4. Good for you Maricel that you can still find time to clean up your desk..
